Making Little Burgundy Big Again: Community Street Art Campaign Brings Life Back to the Neighbourhood
Stunning murals to be presented all over public spaces created by local artists and live music by the jazz committee to show and hear the real beauty within the town of Little Burgundy
By Annabelle Hardy April 4th, 2025
On April 10th, during 10am-9pm, the neighborhood of Little Burgundy will be presenting murals all over the public spaces within a 3-block radius. These murals will be created by local artists and youth sponsoring the local jazz committee. The local jazz band will be there to play for the community throughout the evening and all public are welcome to support and learn about Little Burgundy’s history through art and music.
At each mural, the artist will have a booth and at these booths the artists will be explaining their creative process, what inspired them, what aspects of Little Burgundy they were trying to capture, what part of Little Burgundy’s history it represents, and why they chose this building.
While touring each mural within each block and listening to the music of the neighbourhood, residence and spectators will have the opportunity to join in on some of the creative juices behind the town and learn the basics to street art from some of the artists themselves at the late-night paint tutorial in front of the jazz stage at 6pm. All residents’ paintings will then be placed for auction at the end of the night and all proceeds will be given to the jazz band committee.
The Jazz Committee will also host guest speakers such as Mrs. Jeanne LeBlanc, president of the Saint Martins Blocks Citizens Committee, and Mr. Noel Daudelin, a member of the committee who stands proud in his notion that the neighbourhood is “going to stick together and fight” (Daudelin, 10:49). They will be making their speeches starting at 4:30pm and finishing just in time for the painting tutorial.
The Jazz Committee wants to make it clear that they are there to fight the urban renewal challenges and residents who choose to join in on this event and come to support the music and art will be the very backbone of their fight. They are determined to prove to city hall how strong such a small community can become by organizing themselves and supporting such committees, like the jazz band, to effectively represent their interests.
So, join Little Burgundy in raising a paint brush and offering a listening ear to the local artists and jazz band committee to fight the urban renewal challenges and make Little Burgundy big again!
About The Jazz Committee:
The Little Burgundy Jazz Committee strives to maintain and preserve the rich jazz heritage of the small neighbourhood in Montreal. The committee stands strong for Little Burgundy through organizing events, showcasing collaborations, and setting up educational programs for young artists in the making. The committee ensures jazz remains an integral part of the neighbourhood’s history and continues to fight for what’s right, and in this case, that being the attempt at urban renewal.
